BMW New Zealand has confirmed pricing for the fifth-generation X5, with two electrified versions of the premium SUV set to arrive locally in the first quarter of 2027.
The fully electric BMW iX5 60 xDrive will start at $182,900, while the plug-in hybrid X5 50e xDrive will be priced from $174,900.
The new X5 brings design elements inspired by BMW’s Neue Klasse models, along with updated digital technology, a redesigned cabin and a choice of electrified and conventional powertrains in overseas markets.
It has an all-new interior but options of X-pattern stitching.
Since its launch in 1999, the X5 has helped establish the Sports Activity Vehicle segment, with more than 3.1 million sold worldwide, including more than 7000 in New Zealand.
The electric iX5 60 xDrive is the performance flagship of the two New Zealand variants, producing 425kW and 805Nm. It can accelerate from zero to 100km/h in 4.6 seconds.
Built on an 800-volt electrical architecture, the iX5 is designed to support ultra-fast charging for longer journeys. Adaptive M Suspension will be standard, with BMW aiming to retain the balance of ride comfort and driving performance associated with the model.
Since 1999, more than 7000 BMW X5s have been sold in New Zealand.
The X5 50e xDrive plug-in hybrid combines electric driving capability with a conventional powertrain, producing 360kW and 700Nm. BMW quotes an electric driving range of up to 102km, a top speed of 250km/h and a zero-to-100km/h time of five seconds.
The new model features a more upright front end, a vertically aligned BMW kidney grille and distinctive double-X lighting signatures. Muscular wheel arches and sculpted bodywork maintain the familiar X5 proportions, while adaptive LED headlights and optional illuminated grille detailing add to its presence.

Inside, the cabin adopts a wraparound design with premium materials, enhanced ambient lighting and redesigned steering wheels. Optional glass accents and natural slate surfaces are also available, alongside new X-pattern stitching.
BMW says the fifth-generation X5 will offer diesel, fully electric and plug-in hybrid powertrains across its wider international range, giving customers more choice as the brand expands its electrified line-up.
