Suzuki New Zealand has added to its SUV lineup by introducing a model that sits between the Jimny and Vitara, meet the Fronx, which has just been launched here.
Fronx you say? Liz, did you do a spell check before posting? Yes, I was confused by the name but "Fronx" is a portmanteau of "Frontier" and "Crossover", reflecting its position as a sporty SUV with a coupe-like profile.
It's a new model for Suzuki, essentially a crossover version of the Baleno hatchback, combining SUV ruggedness with sleek styling. The Fronx is also marketed as having a "mild hybrid" powertrain, offering zippy performance and fuel efficiency.
The Suzuki Fronx has a modern cabin and includes Head-Up Display.
The Fronx is designed in Japan and built in India where it’s a hit. It became the top selling new car in India with total sales already exceeding 300,000. Introduced in Japan late last year, the model received over three times the targeted monthly sales volume. It was named the Subcompact SUV of the year
“As a compact SUV, the top grade Fronx is set to make a significant impression in the New Zealand market,” said Aaron Wales, Automobile Sales Manager for Suzuki New Zealand.
“The car is packed with new specifications and is the most well-equipped Suzuki model ever offered here.
“Starting at a special introductory price of $29,990, the Fronx is set to shake up the compact SUV segment with market-leading features at this price point. Highlights include a head-up display, 360-degree camera, wireless phone charging, heated front seats, and an electric parking brake - all part of an impressively lengthy spec list. Additionally, the full suite of Suzuki’s active safety features is included,” he said.
The Fronx has a 1.462cc engine and has a mild hybrid system.
The self-charging Fronx is already proving a highly economical car with its 12-volt lithium ion battery paired with Suzuki’s Hybrid ISG (Integrated Starter Generator) system that combines so well with the 1,462cc engine and six stage automatic transmission.
An independent 200 kilometres test in the Auckland region, covering city, urban, motorway and country roads, resulted in an impressive overall fuel cons
umption of 4.7 litres/100 km. The Suzuki iscapable of arange of more than 700 kilometres from its 37 litre fuel tank. Another advantage of the Fronx is the ability to run on 91 octane fuel or higher.
The Fronx is a five seater, included heated front seats.
Measuring just under four metres, the Fronx combines a cutting-edge exterior with a visually striking interior with premium finishes.
The front split lamp design gives the vehicle a distinctive and modern look, while the signature full-width LED tail lamp stretches across the rear for a seamless, dynamic appearance. At the rear, a premium finish is highlighted by the multi-colour outer lens and red opaline inner lens. Completing the design is a body-coloured shark fin roof antenna and 16” polished face alloy wheels,
There is seating capacity for five, and the luggage volume is rated at 605 litres with the rear seats folded and 304 litres when the rear seats are raised.
