The battle is on for the best compact EV in New Zealand, with the likes of BYD’s Atto 2 about to meet its main competitor, the Geely EX2.
Priced from $32,990 for the Complete and $5000 more for the Inspire, the EX2’s reputation precedes it as it’s already the world’s best-selling battery-electric vehicle across the A and B segments in 2025.
Geely Brand Manager Jordan Haines says the EX2 is a significant moment for electric mobility in New Zealand.
The EX2 has a14.6-inch central touchscreen.
“The Geely EX2 brings advanced EV technology, enjoyable driving and everyday practicality into a more accessible price bracket,” says Haines.
“It is designed to make everyday journeys easier and more enjoyable, from the daily commute and school run to a weekend away.”
At 4,135mm long, the Geely EX2 is built for urban life. Its less than 10 metre turning circle, rear-wheel drive and multi-link rear suspension deliver easy maneuverability with confident handling. It has a range of up to 345km WLTP.

A flat rear floor creates genuine space for five, while storage includes a 70-litre frunk, a 10-litre passenger-seat drawer and up to 1,320 litres of rear cargo capacity.
“The Geely EX2 is compact where New Zealand drivers need it to be and generous where it matters,” says Haines.
Geely EX2 features feather-inspired headlights and semi-concealed door handles. Six exterior colours will be available: Nova Pink, Aurora Green, Nebula Beige, Comet Gray, Star Silver and Moon White.

Inside, a wraparound cabin features a 14.6-inch central touchscreen with an 8.8-inch driver display, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, Bluetooth and 4G connectivity.
An intelligent voice assistant, customisable controls and connected services provide easy access to cabin functions, navigation, media and remote vehicle controls, while USB-A, USB-C and wireless charging keep devices powered on the go.
A hit for me is that the top-spec Complete has heated and ventilated front seats.

The EX2 is built on Geely’s Global Intelligent Electric Architecture and uses a liquid-cooled lithium iron phosphate battery. Its battery protection system includes real-time thermal monitoring, a high-strength steel underbody shield and a reinforced cell-to-pack structure.
Seven airbags provide comprehensive driver and passenger protection, while advanced driver-assistance technologies include intelligent and adaptive cruise control, automatic emergency braking, lane departure warning, blind spot detection and rear cross traffic alert.
