Porsche is revealing more details of the prototype Macan EV including photos of it being tested at a racetrack.

Set for launch in 2023, the Macan EV will share its PPE architecture with the Audi Q6 e-tron. It will be sold alongside the petrol-powered Macan, which is due for a facelift later this year.

The all-electric Macan initially tested at the proving grounds of the Porsche Development Centre in Weissach, and now the camouflaged next-generation prototypes of the compact SUV are heading outside Porsche premises for the first time.

“Testing in a real-life environment is now getting underway – one of the most important milestones in the development process,” says Dr Michael Steiner, Member of the Executive Board, Research and Development, at Porsche AG.

By the time the all-electric Macan is launched, it will have covered some three million test kilometres worldwide in varying conditions.

The prototypes are able to incorporate the experience gained from countless previous test kilometres – driven in a virtual space.

The development work centred around virtual simulations of its aerodynamic and powertrain-cooling properties, given the differing requirements of an EV compared to a combustion car.

Data from these tests was used in the creation of the first physical prototypes, which will now undergo a "demanding test programme" taking in "extremes of climatic and topographical conditions".

The brand has yet to give any further technical details of the electric Macan, save for confirming that it will feature 800V charging architecture and promising that it will be "the sportiest model in its segment".
