More information is coming to hand about the upcoming Mercedes-Benz S-Class engines with the premium large sedan due for release next month.

There will be a 3-litre inline six that will put out 321kW and this will be a mild hybrid with an extra 16kW via an EQ boost set up, for a total of 337kW.

There will also be a twin turbo V8 producing 372kW and it will also get mild hybrid technology, with the extra 16kW, for a combined output of 388kW.

There will also be an inline six hybrid putting out 272kW, with an electric motor adding 105kW, for a total of 377kW. It will have a 28-kWh battery pack and be able to cover up to 96km on electric power.

AMG versions are expected to be plug-in hybrids and the hottest versions could put out as much as 600kW.

Diesel engines will still exist for Europe and China, including a 3-litre inline six with 212kW.

The V12 will still be available in the Maybach and it will be coupled with an all-wheel-drive system.

Full electric engines will be relegated to the EQS cousin which will usher in the next level range of upper luxury electric with ranges of up to 700km. The EQS is expected late 2021.

It’s possible this could be the last generation of the S-Class we could see if the EQS does well, with future generations amalgamating the two into one full electric model. Let’s see!
