Here’s a distraction from fuel prices, the stunning Mercedes-Maybach SL 680 is now available in New Zealand with the flagship soft top priced from $432,400.

It’s the first time that the Maybach brand’s hallmark craftsmanship has focused on the SL roadster, with such trademark features as the branded grille, foldable roof and distinctive 21-inch forged alloy wheels.

At the heart of the Mercedes-Maybach SL 680 is a 4.0-litre V8 biturbo engine producing up to 430kW and 800Nm, with power delivered to all four wheels via the fully variable 4MATIC+ all-wheel drive system.

Technology is centred around the 11.9-inch MBUX central display.

The result is effortless  acceleration, with 0–100km/h achieved in 4.1 seconds. The Mercedes-Maybach SL 680 combines this performance  with Maybach-specific chassis tuning, prioritising ride comfort and refinement while maintaining dynamic capability.

The drive is enhanced by the Mercedes-Maybach SL 680’s SPEEDSHIFT  MCT 9G transmission with a dedicated MAYBACH drive programme. Ride comfort and handling precision are aided  by dynamic engine mounts and an electronically controlled rear axle locking differential. A front axle lift system is also fitted to assist with steep driveways and speed humps.

Inside the cabin, Nappa leather upholstery is complemented by a MANUFAKTUR DINAMICA microfibre roof liner and  bespoke trim detailing, reflecting Maybach’s focus on comfort and craftsmanship.

A Burmester high-end 3D surround sound system with 17 speakers and 1220 watts of output will keep all  occupants entertained, while the wood and leather multifunction steering wheel is heated, and the sports seats  feature a new floral upholstery layout with embossed Maybach emblems.

Acceleration from 0–100km/h achieved in 4.1 seconds.

High-pile floor mats with “MAYBACH”  lettering, silver chrome trim elements and illuminated door sills further distinguish the interior.

Technology is centred around the 11.9-inch MBUX central display with extended functions, augmented reality  navigation and 5G connectivity for digital extras.

Standard features to complement the connected driver include wireless smartphone charging, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto integration. A head-up display and 64colour ambient  lighting scheme allowing owners to personalise the interior are also standard.
