You can channel your inner Lara Croft with a Limited edition Land Rover Defender 'Tomb Raider' when it goes to auction later this month.

The 2001 Defender 90 ‘Tomb Raider’ was created to commemorate Land Rover's role in the 2000 film of that franchise.

Designed to look like an off-road expedition vehicle, it was finished in Bonatti Grey metallic paint with special badging and details and came equipped with a roof rack and roof rack support system (looking similar to a roll-cage), additional spotlights, winch, bull-bar, raised air-intake and Pewter Grey 'Boost' alloys wheels.

They were available either as a 90 or a 110in double cab, with standard Td5 engines. The Defender used in the film (now on display at the Motor Heritage Centre, Gaydon) was a modified 110 HCPU with a specially fitted and tuned V8 petrol engine and a non-standard interior.

Now a UK-supplied, right-hand drive Land Rover Defender ‘Tomb Raider’ edition, believed to be one of 250 produced, is going to auction with Silverstone, UK on May 23.

It has an estimated price of between NZ$50,000 and $60,000.

At the same auction is the Land Rover Defender used in the James Bond film, Spectre.

Silverstone says more than $24,000 has been invested in the restoration of the Defender 90 ‘Tomb Raider’ to present it in showroom condition plus to perform on the road too.

The vendor told Silverstone: ‘’On the road, she is as good as you get with strong turbo performance and the rugged sure-footed handling only a Defender can provide’’.

So don your black shorts and singlet, grab a whip and start on your own Lara Croft adventures.
