Ford New Zealand is offering the Mustang GT Black Shadow Fastback to Kiwi customers from $87,990 – but there’s a catch.

This Mustang brings greater personalisation to customers with a bold, athletic look in eye-catching colours, says Ford.

But the catch is that there is a limited number destined to arrive in New Zealand this October.

“The Mustang is an icon and also one of the most personalised vehicles in New Zealand,” said Ford NZ Managing Director Simon Rutherford. “Customers have been asking for more ways to customise and individualise their particular vehicle, so we’re pleased to offer more ways of doing just that with the eye-popping Black Shadow limited edition.”

It has such design features as a black painted roof and black bonnet stripes, unique 19in alloy wheels, plus a black performance spoiler.

“The Black Shadow takes the Mustang GT Fastback to another level,” said Ford USA Mustang Chief Program Engineer, Carl Widmann.

“It gives the classic Mustang lines a sinister flavour that really adds a raciness and competition look to it and harks back to some of the graphic and decal packages that we’ve had in the past.”

The Ford Mustang GT Black Shadow will be available in four colours: Velocity Blue, Magnetic, Race Red and a heritage colour, Grabber Lime (below).

One of a number of heritage colours, which in New Zealand had previously included Grabber Blue and Dark Highland Green, the ‘Grabber’ paintwork was first offered in North America on early 1970s Mustangs and is the inspiration for Grabber Lime.

“It’s lime green on steroids,” said Barb Whalen, Ford USA colour and materials manager. “This colour traces back to a Mustang heritage colour while bringing it forward with more modern, dynamic pigments and bold new energy. These bright, vibrant retro colours are trending in design – in home furnishings, sportswear and even appliances.

“Aspirational and confident, they are fun, youthful colours that make a statement of how you want the world to see you and who you want to be. And your car is an extension of that.”

The Ford Mustang GT Black Shadow Fastback features the 5l V8 engine boasting 339kW of power and 556Nm torque. It has been engineered to maximise power from every compression by utilising a dual-fuel, high-pressure direct injection and low-pressure port injection system.
