BMW Group will cut hundreds of jobs at its factory in the UK that builds Mini cars, due to falling demand.

The Mini factory in Oxford, England, will move to a two-shift operation from three shifts in mid-October, say Europe Automotive News.

The move will lead to the loss of 400 out of the 950 agency staff at the plant, which has 4000 workers.

The plant's personnel director, Bob Shankley told the BBC that sales of Mini cars had been hit by lower customer demand due to the coronavirus pandemic.

European sales of Mini cars fell by 28 per cent to 89,295 in the first seven months, according to data from JATO Dynamics market researchers.
