Ford New Zealand speeds ahead with new models

Ford New Zealand not only has a busy few months ahead with the release of a new hatch and SUV, plus a plug-in hybrid van but in 2021 is will release the Ranger FX4 Max ute.
The first-ever Ranger FX4 Max will make its New Zealand debut in early 2021, with specialised suspension, an All-Terrain off-road tyre and wheel package – inspired by the Ranger Raptor.
Shared with the Ranger Raptor, the Ranger 4x4 FX4 Max is powered by the latest generation, 157kW/500Nm Bi-Turbo powertrain, including the advanced 10-speed automatic. The powertrain enables the FX4 MAX a 981kg payload as well as sharing Ranger’s renowned 3500kg towing capability. The 10-speed includes a lock-out feature to hold specific gears for ease when towing.
The FX4 Max will be priced from $69,990.

“A factory-finished Ranger, FX4 Max delivers even greater off-road capability, while sacrificing none of Ranger’s renowned towing and payload, thanks to the latest generation Bi-Turbo, 10-speed powertrain. In the FX4 Max, customers can enjoy a pick-up with unique capabilities across the board.”

Next month will see Ford NZ adding the Puma hatchback and an Escape SUV, while a plug-in hybrid Custom van is now available.
The Escape medium SV will cost between $42,990 to $55,990 for petrol models, while two plug-in hybrid versions are priced at $58,990 and $64,990.
The petrol Escapes has a 2-litre, EcoBoost four cylinder engine producing 183kW of power and 387Nm of torque paired with an eight-speed automatic, and either the front or all-wheel-drives.
The PHEVs get a 2.5 litre Atkinson cycle/electric powertrain hooked up to a constantly variable transmission with an all-electric range of around 50km from a 14.4kWh lithium ion battery.

Ford expects the Escape hybrid to take on the highly popular Toyota RAV4 hybrid, that last year had an eight month waiting list but is now down to four weeks, says the Japanese brand.
The Puma hatch is all-new to New Zealand and has a 1-litre three-cylinder engine producing 92kW of power and 170Nm of torque and paired with a seven-speed dual-cluthc transmission.
The entry Puma will cost $33,990, while the up-spec ST-Line will land at $37,990.
Two versions of the Custom PHEV will be offered in New Zealand with the cargo van starting the range at $89,990, while a Custom nine-seater is from $99,990.
