Audi gets ready to dominate 2021 with e-tron GT

After the success of the Porsche Taycan, which was Porsche’s best-selling car in the UK in November 2020, all eyes are on ‘brother’ Audi’s upcoming E-Tron GT four-door coupe that has just started production at its Neckarsulm plant in Germany.

Despite Covid complications, production has started on time and first deliveries are expected in quarter two or three next year. It is expected the GT will debut in quarter one and order books will immediately open, with the arrival in New Zealand mid-2021.

The GT represents not only the acceleration of the electric future for Audi, but also one whereby production of a model has been designed without physical prototypes. This 100 per cent computer aided design process no doubt has sped up the design process of the E-Tron GT.

The E-Tron GT will also be produced as a “net carbon neutral car”, with its manufacturing being powered by eco-electricity and the factory heated by biogas. Carbon credits have been used to offset emissions that could not be avoided by using green energy.

The pinnacle of the E-Tron GT will be the “RS”. It will have dual motors and a two speed gearbox. Power on overboost will be a beefy 469kW. It will be run on a 83.7 kWh battery pack and be able to fast charge via a 350kW charger.
